iLASIK
iLASIK®, the combination of femtosecond laser for LASIK flap creation and wavefront-guided excimer laser for corneal sculpting provides superior safety and vision. iLASIK® can deliver truly customized treatments. iLASIK® is the newest one that updated on May 2019.
The iDESIGN® Refractive Studio
The wavefront technology was originally developed for use in high-powered telescopes to reduce distortions when viewing distant objects in space. This technology has now been applied to laser vision correction. The iDESIGN® Refractive Studio Fourier technology captures up to 1,257 data points in a 7-mm pupil, its 5 times more precisely than predecessor.
Iris Registration (IR) uses multiple matching reference points from the iris to capture and compensate for torsional angle, as well as pupil centroid shift.
IntraLase® iFS System
The unique computer-controlled laser system enables to create thin, planar flaps with a uniform thickness, good centration, maximizing residual bed and potentially producing a more stable post-LASIK cornea. The iFS laser system provides precision designed treatments with faster healing, stronger flap adhesion and better visual outcomes. The stronger flap may be more resistant to trauma and reduce the incidence of certain complications.
VISX STAR S4 IR®
A new level of precision may be predictably achieved by linking the advanced refractive information of the WaveScan® Wave- Front System with the STAR S4 IR® Excimer Laser System, provid- ing accurate alignment and centration for every patient.
iLASIK® gives you more safety and accuracy. The National Aeronautics and Space Agency (NASA) has approved iLASIK® for use on U.S. astronauts. The iLASIK® have also been cleared for U.S. military personnel, including Air Force Pilots.
High Quality of Vision
Correct “high-order aberrations”
Eyeglasses and contacts are used to correct what are known as “low-order aberrations”, the symptoms of which are myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism. Wavefront treatment corrects additional visual imperfections called “high-order aberrations” (e.g., haloes, spikes, starbursts, certain night vision problems, etc.); thus, it improves visual acuity and visual quality beyond the scope of eyeglasses or contacts, or less evolved laser eye treatments. These high-order aberrations are mapped and a customized laser treatment plan is developed to correct them.
Wavefront treatment improves visual quality potential by creating a sophisticated corneal map of the eye and then combining it with an analysis of the visual system of the eye using a wavefront analyzer. A precise measurement of all the aberrations of the eye provides a broader range of treatment and allows the treatment of those patients who might have otherwise been ineligible. The examination analyses the entire visual system extending from the corneal surface, through the crystalline lens, to the retina at the back of the eye. This combined analysis is then directly applied to the cornea via the laser treatment.
These steps represent a considerably detailed assessment and treatment of the visual system than those available previously and eliminate virtually all visual imperfections. With regard to LASIK surgery, a sophisticated software converts the information related to aberrations into a highly individualized prescription. This prescription is transferred electronically to the computer that controls the laser system; this system calculates how and where the laser will affect the cornea. The surgeon then uses this information to perform the actual surgery.
The VISX Fourier wavefront upgrade has the ability to capture wavefront information on larger pupil patients and utilizes this data for optical zone treatments out to 7mm. Transition zones continue to be adjustable out to 9.5mm.
The Fourier algorithm delivers the highest resolution of the customized ablations. The perfect match between measured with Fourier and actual corneal shape.
This procedure can produce the following improvements in the eyesight after the surgery.
- May achieve a higher quality of vision
- May improve low-contrast vision or night vision
- Can correct irregular astigmatism from previous surgery or injury
- Decrease the chance for complications such as night glare, haloes and loss of best-corrected vision.
Precise Correction with Combination of New Advanced Technologies
Iris Registration automatically aligns the treatment plan to match the location of the wavefront error when measured at the iDesign® Advanced WaveScan Studio. The Advanced CustomVue procedure provides the broadest range of custom wavefront-guided laser vision correction.
ActiveTrack 3-D Active Eye Tracking with automatic centering is the first FDA-approval tracker in the industry to track eye movements along the X, Y and Z axes. These features facilitate the accurate performance of the Advanved CustomVue procedure.
The STAR S4 IR® Excimer Laser System features Variable Spot Scanning technology(VSS) and Variable Repetition Rate(VRR) pulse-packing algorithm. The VSS technology produces variable beam sizes from as small as 0.65mm up to 6.5mm, while VRR varies the laser's repetition rate from 6Hz to 20Hz. By continually changing the size and placement of the laser beam, the STAR S4 IR® Excimer Laser rapidly delivers the precise ablation pattern required, significantly reducing ablation time. This capability minimizes thermal effects on the cornea and performs the procedure as quickly as possible.
Innovative LASIK Flap-Creation Technology
The iFS Advanced Femtosecond Laser System takes LASIK flap creation to a whole new standard of speed and control. It’s designed to deliver biomechanically engineered flaps that can be customized for every individual cornea.
The unique computer-controlled laser system enables to create thin, planar flaps with a uniform thickness and maximizing residual bed. Also, the iFS technology results in significantly smoother stromal beds with higher speed and lower energy. The smooth stromal bed can enhance customized ablation.
Elliptical flap enhances surgical options
- Distributes forces symmetrically to the elliptical cornea
- Prevents resection of the vital peripheral corneal fibers that contribute greatly to the biomechanical strength of the cornea
- Moves the hinge peripherally to miximize stromal bed exposure for full delivery of excimer ablation
- Allows use of a wider hinge angle to create flap stability
Inverted Bevel-In Side Cut
Inverted bevel-in side cut promotes flap positioning and produces stronger flap adhesion postoperatively. The stronger flap may be more resistant to trauma and reduce the incidence of certain complications.
The Demerit of iLASIK®
In iLASIK® procedure, more corneal tissue may be removed with the amount of the additional cornea removal dependent on the degree of corneal or optic distortions. If you don’t have enough corneal thickness, you might not undergo iLASIK®.
Surgical Procedure
The actual surgery is usually completed in less than 20 minutes, but preoperative preparation may extend the time of the surgery to 1 hour. Both eyes can be operated at the same time.
The top layer (epithelium) of the cornea is removed with the epitheltal scrubber to prepare the eye for treatment. The excimer laser is then used to reshape the cornea to correct myopia, hyperopia or astigmatism. After treatment, a contact lens is placed on the cornea as a bandage for about three days.
Prices
Due to effects relating to the situation in Ukraine, since last year there has been an insufficient supply and an increase in the price of premix gases for using in laser refractive surgery.
Minatomirai Eye Clinic has been making every effort to maintain the
current cost of the surgery, however, because of further price hike, we make a decision to change the price of laser refractive surgery as follows, from October 1, 2023.
We appreciate your understanding in this issue and will continue providing premium refractive surgery.

Timetable of LASIK Surgery
Several examinations are performed prior to the LASIK procedure. The doctors perform a full eye examination and enquire about previous eye history. During this examination, the doctors determine whether the patient is eligible for the LASIK procedure.
An eye examination is by appointment only. You may make an appointment on our website or by phone. Please feel free to contact us regarding any questions you may have.

Those new to our clinic will undergo an initial eye examination and consultation. We will conduct a detailed examination to evaluate whether LASIK surgery can be performed, provide information on the conditions of your eyes and the surgical procedure and answer any concerns or questions that you may have. |
In order to determine the degree of correction for myopia, astigmatism or hyperopia to be performed during the procedure so as to achieve the desired visual acuity, patients will undergo a detailed vision test including measurement of corneal shape and refractive power which is to be performed no earlier than one week prior to the scheduled date of surgery, so that the most recent and accurate measurements before the surgery can be obtained. Note) Eye makeup should not be worn (except for eyebrow makeup) for 2 days before the surgery. |
Instructions for Patients Wearing Contact Lenses
Following the above instructions will ensure that the refractive error in patients is measured properly. |
Please bring your completed consent form for the surgery with you and arrive at the clinic at least one hour before the scheduled surgery time. |
Significant improvement in vision is noticeable approximately one day following the surgery.
You are recommended to undergo an additional examination in addition to the regular checkups whenever you experience a sudden change in your vision or any abnormalities. |
